Bike Hire In St.Jean d'Aulps
Currently, there is only one option for bike hire during summer in St. Jean d’Aulps. Whether you want a road or mountain bike, you can rent one in the resort. You can also rent electric bikes, which suit the terrain around St.Jean a little better due to the steepness of our hills.
La Terche Sports is a Sport 2000 franchise and an incredibly convenient for bike hire in St.Jean d’Aulps. It is located in the Roc d’Enfer ski station, a couple of minutes walk from the telecabine. This shop rents out a few types of bikes to suit your needs. For example, you can hire a hardtail electric mountain bike to get around on or a burly enduro mountain bike for more technical terrain.
New for 2025, St Jean d’Aulps is now home to Jaff VTT. Jaff is a British bike mechanic and has a reputation for being one of the best. He is the guy to go to for suspension services, but he can do all kinds of work on all types of bike. Jaff’s shop also has a great hire fleet of electric mountain bikes.
Mountain Biking In St.Jean d'Aulps
You can take a mountain bike on the Grande Terche telecabine to save yourself from pedalling up the mountain. However, you need to know that you can’t use any other ski lift with a bike at Roc d’Enfer.
There are a couple of challenging unofficial mountain bike trails from the top of the lift. These are incredibly steep with technical switchbacks and should only be attempted by experienced mountain bikers. You can, of course, pedal further up the mountain from the top of the telecabine. Doing so reveals several routes, some of which are marked on the summer piste map. But, it is worth noting that, although not all the routes are particularly technical, they involve steep climbs. There’s a good chance you’ll need to push your bike up several sections.
However, riding an electric mountain bike at Roc d’Enfer unlocks more possibilities. The motor makes climbing possible and the routes more enjoyable. A great example of this is the Tour de Roc d’Enfer. But you do need to ride down a red ski slope, so it’s not the best for beginners.
