About The Roc d’Enfer Ski Area
The Roc D’Enfer ski area overlooks the quaint mountain village of St. Jean d’Aulps. It is the Portes du Soleil’s best-kept secret and pleasantly surprises anyone who skis and snowboards here. Here’s what to expect from Roc D’Enfer:
Ideal For Beginners

The Roc D’Enfer ski area is ideal for learning to ski or snowboard. The Grande Terche telecabine takes you directly to the bottom of the beginner area at 1500m. Here, you’ll find two button lifts that service a couple of mellow green slopes with the perfect gradient for getting to grips with your first turns.
Once you feel more confident, take the Les Tetes chairlift to experience an easy blue run or a slightly more challenging red. Alternatively, why not ski down the La Chanterelle blue run back down to the bottom of the ski station?
Following the piste map to the Col de Graydon means you can enjoy a long blue run with a couple of fun variations to mix it up. But it also takes you to the start of the Tour Du Roc D’Enfer.
Take The Tour

The Tour Du Roc D’Enfer is a must-do for competent skiers and snowboarders visiting St. Jean D’Aulps. This circuit takes you around the whole Roc D’Enfer ski area using connected lifts and slopes. You get to ski stunning tree-lined runs, which are often deserted. It’s like having your own private ski resort!
Generally, the pistes around the Tour Du Roc D’Enfer are pretty easy, but there are a couple of red runs, which can get icy sometimes. Also, once you’ve started the circuit, you must complete it, as there is no going back. An intermediate skier or snowboarder can complete the circuit in about 2 hours.
The lifts around the circuit are all chairlifts except for two button lifts. The first one you see is a double lift called TK Des Follys. It’s pretty long but relatively easy to contend with. However, it’s worth noting that the severity of the button lift is unpredictable. Sometimes it pulls you away nice and softly, other times it will yank you off your feet, so be prepared!
One of the great things about the Tour Du Roc D’Enfer is that there are plenty of other slopes to enjoy as you go around. Also, you may want to stop off at one of the excellent restaurants for lunch.
Roc d'Enfer For Advanced Skiers And Snowboarders

A quick look at the piste map reveals only one black run at Roc D’Enfer. This is part way around the Tour Du Roc D’Enfer and is an un-pisted section that cuts through the forest, bringing you back onto a red piste. It’s pretty short but lots of fun, especially on a powder day. It’s also easy to miss, so make sure you slow down so you don’t go past it.
The Tour Du Roc D’Enfer is entertaining for all. Still, advanced skiers and snowboarders can make it more fun by taking shortcuts through various sections of forests. You’ll need to keep your eyes open to spot the entrances or make friends with a local willing to share their secrets.
There’s a surprising amount of off-piste terrain around Roc D’Enfer. However, as you’ll see, most of it is steep and prone to avalanches. Therefore, we recommend hiring a local guide to take you off-piste and touring safely. Please don’t explore on your own; it’s very easy to get into trouble!
