Winter Activities in St.Jean d'Aulps
Winter at Roc d’Enfer and the rest of the Portes du Soleil provide many opportunities to experience the mountains in several ways. Here are some winter activities in St.Jean d’Aulps besides skiing and snowboarding:
Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is becoming incredibly popular with visitors to Roc d’Enfer. It’s an excellent activity for families, kids, and non-skiers who want to explore nature at a slower pace. You can hire snowshoes and ask for a snowshoe guide map in the tourist office, but we recommend booking a guide.
DaysAway Adventures is our favourite snowshoe guiding company. Run by Jason and Vivian, who live in the ski station, teach you all about snowshoe techniques and take you to the best places in the area. Their knowledge and love for snowshoeing, our local landscapes, and wildlife are incredible.
Dog Sledding

Racing through the snowy forests on a sled drawn by a team of dogs is a unique experience. You can do this from the Bellevaux – La Chèvrerie area (you may see the dogs when skiing the Tour de Roc d’Enfer), where you’ll be looked after by Traineaux Passion.
Traineaux Passion offers several options, from passenger rides to learning how to drive the sled. You can even experience the Scandinavian Pulka as a family activity. This is where you’re connected to the pulka by a belt and a cushioned leash. Your child can sit inside the pulka on suitable terrain.
Mountain Kart

The Mountain Kart is a three-wheeled gravity-powered vehicle with grippy tyres and powerful brakes, making it one of the most fun winter activities in St.Jean d’Aulps. The Mountain Kart experience starts on the plateau, at the top of the telecabine, at 4:30, when the slopes are closed. After admiring the views, you race down to the resort on a 2km track with 600m of descent.
Sledging And Yooner

Every winter, the pisteures create a designated area for kids to slide down on a sledge or yooner. The sledging area is at the bottom of the home run near the telecabine’s base station. It’s free to use and has a mild gradient, ideal for an early evening activity for kids.
Ice Skating

The Saint Jean d’Aulps ice rink is located in the square next to the ticket office. Here, families can safely slide around every day during the school holidays from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. You can also treat yourself to a crepe to keep up your energy.

Night Sledging In Morzine

Night sledging is a fantastic après-ski activity available in Morzine. Charge down Piste B from the top of Pleney with a head torch when the slopes are closed and deserted. A guide and a support person look after you and tell you where to go and how to be safe, but it is absolute carnage! Night sledging is available to anyone over 12 years old and is organised by Indiana Adventures.
Snowmobiling

Another favourite entertaining activity is snowmobiling in Avoriaz with Avoscoot. There are many options to choose from, from being a passenger to driving the machine yourself (provided you are over 18 years old and have a driving license). Full-size machines are not suitable for kids to drive, but they have mini-electric versions to try out.
Fitness And Wellbeing

You don’t have to be active the whole time during your visit. There are several options for wellbeing in the area. For example, Morzine has a spa centre in the same building as the indoor swimming pool. In the Wellness & Relaxation Spa, you can expect saunas, Turkish baths, and loungers with mountain views. If you’re concerned about getting out of your exercise routine, there’s no need to worry. Morzine has many options to stay active, such as the yoga studio or the fantastic gym at The Hive by Buzz Performance and Mountain Rehab.
